Parenting Teens is no Easy Challenge

I think most of the time parenting teens is a hard challenge. It’s often times hard to discipline the teen because they will immediately respond with resentment. A teen can sometimes be a strange individual. At times they seem just like an adult, but they still appear to have the mind of a child. A person who is parenting teens will sometimes find it hard to ignore a tantrum that is being thrown by a teenager.

So how do you go about parenting teens? Well, I don’t claim to know all the answers, but here is my opinion. First you have to try and learn and understand the rules of the game. I think children grow up thinking that they are suppose to lie to their parents. It is their God-given right, and they will try to get away with as much as possible, while you try and catch them at lying. There may not be a whole lot of logic to the game, but there you have it. As long as you don’t make a federal case of the situation, you need to continue trying at catching them lie with something, and then pretend that it is a big deal. It can be a fun game and hopefully everyone will gain in the long run. I think you need to make it quite clear that there will be some rules that they need to follow because you really do care for them.

I believe that discipline works when you demonstrate to them that nothing matters more to you than them. Your teen may act strange at times, but somewhere in there is a human just waiting to burst forth. Just try to provide lots of love and discipline, without taking it too personally when they get a little out of hand. Try and remain firm and strong and remember that parenting teens can be fun, as long as you keep in mind that it’s not forever.
