Having an adequate amount of outdoor security lighting is a highly effective security measure that will deter intruders from targeting your home at night. The most effective type of security lighting you can use are motion lights as they provide the biggest deterrent as they make intruders feel fully exposed when they trigger them. Intruders know when the lights suddenly come on they are likely to alert someone to their presence either in the home or possibly a close neighbor.

It is extremely important that whatever type of security lighting you may use is not overly bright as this type of lighting will actually work against you as it will create pools of shadows that could help intruders remain unnoticed. Using overly bright lights also will cause your pupils to contract & cause a shadowed area to appear much darker than what it actually is.

Many intruders are fully aware the effects that bright lights can have & will actively use it to their advantage by positioning themselves in a shadowed area to escape detection. Using extra lower watt lights will help reduce glare & provide more even illumination & it will also reduce the pools of shadows that is created with the use of brighter lights.
