Baby Bedding Safety Concerns

Most parents are over whelmed with joy during the pregnancy, rightfully so, the birth of a new child is a precious gift and comes with life long responsibility to love and protect the new born. Parents need to thing about their baby’s safety first. Your baby will spend most it there time sleeping in the crib and that is were SIDS can strike. SIDS is sudden infant death syndrome also known as crib death or cot death is one of the leading cause of death for infants between 29 days and one year of age. Male infants are at a higher risk than females.

You will need to shop for bedding that will help reduce the risk of SIDS. It is not advised to to used bedding that are designed for adult use the risk of possible suffocation is to great and it is not safe. Instead consider using baby bedding that is designed for infants and children.

There are many manufactures of baby bedding to choose from with selection from standard to luxurious and prices for every budget. Your selection should take into consideration several factors like the mattress size. Most mattresses are a standard crib size just make sure yours is not to small for the crib. The sheets should fit snugly and flat around the mattress and not come off. The sheet should not be to large for the crib and the same for the blanket. Never but to large of a blanket or comforter in the crib with your baby. Finally you should lay your baby on there back to help reduce SIDS. Please discuss SIDS with the hospital nursery before you bring the baby home.
